Foaming and cratering

Problem - Foaming / cratering
Formation of bubbles and foaming, resulting in small, round concave depressions or craters. These occur when bubbles break during application and drying.

Possible causes

  • Excessive stirring of paint.
  • Use of wrong roller of brush.
  • Over diluting the paint.

All paints will foam to some degree during application. If necessary, sand the problem areas before repainting.

Do not over-dilute the paint. See the product label for recommendations on thinning.

Follow Tikkurila's recommendations on spread rate.

Use a suitable paint, roller and brush. Wash the roller before painting and carefully shake out any excess water.

Do not stir the paint too much to avoid bubble formation.
